OSSMA celebrates student achievements
Students here at Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy are celebrating today following receiving their GCSE results, enabling them to embark on the next chapter of their education.
Staff and students joined together to celebrate the many achievements, at the end of what has been another unusual year in light of COVID-19 and the cancellation of examinations.
Despite this, the academy, which is sponsored by Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT), has seen continued success with some of the standout individual achievements including:
- Jack Wetwood who successfully achieved grade 9 in English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Biology, Physics, Geography, and Spanish, grade 8 in Chemistry, Distinction* in BTEC Engineering and Sport, and Distinction in BTEC Creative Media.
- Lily Peasegood who successfully achieved grade 9 in English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, History, Geography and Drama, grade 8 in Chemistry, Physics and Biology, and Distinction in BTEC Enterprise and Sport.
- Jack Powell who successfully achieved grade 9 in Mathematics, Biology, Physics, History, Psychology and Drama, grade 8 in English Language, English Literature, and Chemistry, grade 7 in Spanish, and Distinction in BTEC Sport.
Nick Brennan, Principal at Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy, said:
“We are very proud of our students and the results they have achieved, which are hugely deserved. They have worked extremely hard over the last two years and have managed to accomplish so much over such a turbulent time by using our core values of Confidence, Resilience, Enthusiasm, Empathy, Challenge and Kindness.
I want to thank all our students, their families, our staff, governors and the wider school community for their ongoing support, and we wish our students well as they now move on to the next stage of their life journey.”
This year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Government decided that young people’s grades would be determined by teachers, based on work students produced throughout their course. These grades were then moderated and assessed by external exam boards which awarded the final grades.
