Learning Resource Centre

Through its collections and services, the OSSMA Learning Resource Centre (LRC) supports and enhances the programme of studies at Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy.

Situated in the heart of the school on the ground floor, it provides an ideal environment for quiet study, acquisition of knowledge and encourages intellectual enquiry.  Whilst actively supporting an independent approach to learning, we endeavour to give our students, the skills they need to support them in their studies and beyond.

The LRC promotes and encourages reading for pleasure, with particular emphasis on fiction through the promotion of authors, award-winning titles and new releases.  World Book Day celebrations, new book launches and seasonal story writing competitions are also exciting ways in which our students develop a life-long love of reading and learning.

The LRC has a collection of over 10,000 books and a number of other resources.  There is a varied selection to choose from, the comprehensive and varied selection of titles catering to all needs.

It is also a classroom area containing 24 computers and 20 laptops for students to access Bedrock Learning and Accessit Library system. Our popular Bedrock Learning enhances our student’s vocabulary and improve their reading levels, along with various other literacy programmes and EAL Linguistic support for our overseas students.

Students and teachers are able to work with the academy LRC Manager to utilise valuable research skills, using traditional and electronic methods. The English department also runs a Breakfast Reading Ambassador scheme to support literacy, both are run on a weekly basis.
